From Sismano to Massa Martana
Going south, at the foot of the Martani Mounts, you can easily reach Massa Martana. Here you will find two of Umbria's best Romanesque churches: the abbey of S. Maria in Pantano and the abbey of S. Faustino, dating back to the XIII and IX centuries. Next to the ancient via Flaminia you can visit the early Christian catacombs and the Fonnaia Bridge, dating back to the I century A.D. The area's vegetation offers a rich palette: holm oaks, oaks and beeches. The Martani Mounts are full of grottos, sinkholes and ponors originated by steady water erosion. There are many mineral springs in the area.
