Route Nature from Rome to Sismano
Visit the Tiber river Park, the Naturalistic Oasis of Alviano, the strongholds of Baschi, Amelia, Lugnano in Teverina and Todi. Departing from Rome, do not take the highway: follow the road along the Tiber, one of the most beautiful routes of Italy. Driving the Val Tiberina (The river Tiber valley), you will reach the protected area of the Tiber River Park. Along the state highway SS205 you will reach Amelia, one of the first villages to be founded by the ancient Italic population. If you keep driving the SS205, you'll reach Lugnano in Teverina, a beautiful medieval village, renowned for its Romanesque cathedral. Follow the SS205 along the Tiber, and reach Alviano, where you can visit the Naturalistic Oasis, created in 1978 and covering an area of over 800 hectares. The oasis is an important station of food supply for cranes, great crested grebes, herons, cormorants, gulls, wild geese and fish hawks. The oasis offers two natural routes of four kilometers, equipped with bird watching hides, turrets and gangways. From Alviano you can reach Giove and Penna in Teverina, then head to Amelia, where you can drive the secondary road SP9 to Avignano Umbro. Or you can keep driving the state highway SS205 until you reach the stronghold of Baschi, where you can visit the castle and the Parish Church of St. Nicolò, dating back to the XVI century. In Baschi, take the state highway SS448 and reach Todi and the artificial lake of Corbara. You can stop in Todi, spectacular medieval village, or take the secondary road SP379 and reach Sismano.
